Venerable nuns on alms-round in O.U.G. & Happy Garden

Volunteers follow the venerable nuns to assist them.

On Saturday 2 November, the Buddhist community came together to offer alms to venerable nuns during the monthly Pindacāra programme organised by Nalanda Kuala Lumpur Branch.  A familiar practice for many at the O.U.G. and Happy Garden morning markets, market goers and stall operators offered their requisites generously to the nuns.

This centuries-old practice is an enabler of the renunciant’s way of life so they need not worry about food; this affords them time to ponder and practise the Dhamma.  Since the time of the Buddha, lay people have been supporting the Sangha this way with food, robes, shelter and medicine. In return, they provide guidance to the laity on Buddhist teachings, thus forging a close, respectful, and symbiotic relationship between the two communities.

Members of the community offer with much respect and joy.

To honour the virtues and contributions of the monastic community, we invite you join us for ‘Sangha Day’ on Sunday 17 November at Nalanda and make offerings that meet the needs of the Sangha. To register your participation, use this link https://forms.gle/uBEc4gNK8J1hxzDZA or contact Nalanda Office at 03-8938 1500.  The service starts at 9am and features concurrent Dhamma talks in Mandarin by Sis. Nandinī Tan and in English by Sis. Paruadi Ramasamy on the importance of the Sangha community.  All are welcome.

The programme continued at NEO Centre KL with a Dhamma sharing by Ayya Ariyasanghamitta.
