Wesak full-moon Buddha Day was celebrated for the first time at NEO Centre Johor Bahru on Saturday, 25 May. More than 200 devotees packed the Centre to attend the pūja and Dhamma sharing by Nalandians.
It was heart-warming to hear personal stories and experiences from Choo Yi Kang, Bro.Tong Siong Yeow, and in particular Mrs. Ho, who spoke about how her son encouraged her to learn the Dhamma, leading to personal transformation. Bro. Tan further emphasised that the Dhamma is suitable for all ages, as everyone is striving for peace and happiness. There are parents who introduced Dhamma to their children; but there are also children who brought their parents to Dhamma.
After the touching and meaningful sharing session, a candle-light procession was held within the Centre’s compound. Bro. Tan invited the two venerable monks present to lead the procession while reciting verses of blessings. Devotees formed a long line and followed behind with calmness and mindfulness, while keeping their minds free from unwholesome distractions. Joy and serenity permeated throughout the Centre as even very young children appreciated the significance of the occasion, and quietly participated with respect and grace.
On the whole, the humility and attentiveness of the congregation made it a night to remember. Many thanks to all who have contributed towards this fulfilling and wonderful inaugural Wesak Observance at Nalanda Johor Bahru. It was truly a great beginning for a new Centre. Sadhu anumodana!
