Wholesome desires in Dhamma practice

Wholesome desires in Dhamma practice

Nalanda leaders welcome Ven. Chandima with much joy and gratitude.

On Tuesday 3 September, Nalanda members and devotees gathered for the Uposatha Evening Service to learn from Ven. Dr. Chandima and Bro. Tan Siang Chye.  Ven. Chandima explained that while desire can lead to suffering, not all desires are harmful.  For laypeople, having worldly goals or enjoying sensual pleasures is not blameworthy, as long as one does not develop greed and obsession.

To progress in our spiritual cultivation, Venerable emphasised that Dhamma practice should involve an “effortless effort,” avoiding extremes of laziness or restlessness.  Change happens gradually and requires consistent effort.  Each small step in developing generosity, purifying our morality and cultivating the mind will become the foundation for steady growth in the path of Dhamma.

The Uposatha service commenced with offerings and evening chanting.

Bro. Tan Siang Chye, the Chairman of Nalanda Education Committee, introduced the topic of the Dhamma Chat.

Self-reflection can be done before, during and after for every action, speech or thought.

Devotees took the opportunity to ask questions to clarify their doubts.

Nalanda leaders and devotees thanked Venerable for his teachings.

Offerings of requisites on behalf of the Society.

We wish Ven. Chandima good health and success in his noble endeavours.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ven. Dr. Chandima for his insightful sharing and Bro. Tan Siang Chye for facilitating the session.  Let us reflect upon Venerable’s advice and remain steadfast in our learning and practice. Sadhu.
